Welcome to Reception!

Our class teachers are Mrs Storey (Monday - Wednesday) and Mrs Gawne-Sheridan (Thursday - Friday)

In Reception we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which is a play based curriculum using a mixture of adult led and child initiated experiences to develop the children's learning and prepare them for their journey through school. Scroll down for important information and helpful websites.

Expectations

  • Parents/carers are a child's first and most important educator and we expect that we will work together, school and home, as a team to nurture and develop each child through a two way sharing of information.  Parents will ensure that school has up to date email information to enable this to take place through our online system 'Evidence Me'.
  • It is vital that all children experience stories and rhymes for their language and literacy development. Children should have time each day to share stories at home and we expect that they will read a range of story books during the week. They will talk about what is happening in the story, using the pictures and their developing ability to use letter sounds to read the words. By the end of the year we expect the children to be able to read simple sentences by themselves.  Adults in school and at home can record the books each child has read in their reading log which should be in the child's book bag.  Each child will have a book from school to read at home as well as their own story books and they will read at least once per week with an adult in school.

Early Years Foundation Stage Profile

  • Children are expected to achieve the Early Learning Goals by the end of their year in reception.  Their progress towards meeting these goals are recorded in the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile which is a statutory assessment shared with both parents and the DfE.

PE

  • PE is currently on a Tuesday and Friday - Children should come into school in PE kits on this day, with a school jumper or cardigan.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call or see me at the end of the school day.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Mrs Storey & Mrs Gawne-Sheridan
