The Season of Advent at Our Lady’s

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”  The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him.  It is good that we wait quietly for the coming of the LORD.  (Lamentations Chapter 3).

During the Season of Advent we take time to carefully prepare the school community for the coming of Our Lord, Jesus Christ at Christmas time, by putting together weekly Advent Liturgies to correspond with each week of Advent.

Each week the Liturgies have a different focus as follows:

Week 1: Hope

Week 2: Peace

Week 3: Joy

Week 4: Love

These weekly themed liturgies include the symbolic lighting of the Advent candle, scripture readings for that week, prayer, reflection and song.  Children also participate by preparing symbols in response to the readings.

Afterwards, a prayer trail is created in the school hall – one for each week of Advent – which enables the children to spend more time reflecting upon the meaning of the Advent readings.
